Tu-95

The venerable Tupolov TU-95 "Bear" first saw service in the Soviet Air Force in 1956, originally designed as a long-range strategic bomber. One of the most reliable of all aircraft ever built, the four-engine turboprop "Bear" is expected to remain in Russian service until 2040.

There are numerous variants, although those in service today are the MS-type, carrying the Raduga Kh-55 "Kent" Air-to-Surface cruise missile.

All through the Cold War, "Bears" were often seen testing Western air defenses, a practice that the Russians continue today.
